No Capital, but want to go into business?

I actually read a few blogs a day, and there are many that I can recommend. For this site, I want to repost Moks entry in his blog because I think this entry is very useful to and for "wanna be" small entrepreneurs.

Paano giginhawa?

by Pinoy Manggagawa sa KSA

While drinking beer with a friend last week, my friend complained that life is difficult. Mabuti pa raw ako, “abroad” (his indirect way of telling me na ako ang magbayad, ahihi). His take home pay is 11,000 pesos, while his wife is 9,000 pesos for a total of 20,000 pesos a month. They have two young children, one is 5 years old and the other is 3 years old…..parehas daw malakas lumagok ng gatas, hehehe. May ATM debt pa raw sya sa opisina nya, which charges 10 per cent a month. Ano raw ba gagawin nya? Should he go abroad para daw lumaki ang kita nya? His reasoning was, no employee became rich; most government employees get old and get deeper in debt. (unless corrupt, diba?), hehehe

Sabi ko, try to save. I asked him to list his monthly expenses: gastos sa yosi – Marlboro, palitan mo ng Winston, bawasan mo beer budget mo, add more vegetables to your diet, kong OK pa cellphone mo, why buy a new one? blah blah…etc. etc. Sabi ko, isipin mo 16,000 lang take home pay niyong mag-asawa a month, and live on it. Budgetin mo. Now save that 4,000 a month for 6 months, and how much you will get? 24,000 diba? Now instead of you taking the loan at 10% a month, asked your fellow employees to get a loan from you at 8% a month. Roll that, and continue saving 4,000 a month and how much you will get, with the power of compound interest, after a year; what about after two years? Magaling ka sa math diba… magkano?

His calculation showed that a person can save 67,000 in one year and almost 250,000 in two years, that is, if the the person continues saving 4,000 a month and lending it to his office mates continuously at 8% a month.

Ayan…. you will have a total asset of 0.25 million in two years, and an added income of almost 20K a month on interest alone after two years. Can you imagine how much will it be in 10 years? Magkano nga ba? Yayaman ka rin …….sabi ko.

There are many other small businesses than anyone can go into that could earn more than 8% a month.  Some food business (siomai food cart, carenderia etc.) are marking up their prices by more than 10%.

The lesson is: Just spend less than what you earn, and invest wisely. And most importantly, you have to start Now!

================
Since we are on this, I am wondering how much the "bombays" earn in my City since they have been charging 20% (5-6), and their clients are almost all the vendors and small stores here, and they have been doing this since I can remember. In fact, one of my shop neighbors told me that she had been on a loan from a "bombay" for the past 15 years na "walang patid", and her monthly loans ranges from 3,000 to 5,000 pesos at a time, up to 10,000 pesos, and she had been paying the "bombay" religously- daily for the past 15 years!

  1. I agree with what 'pare' shared,it really does not mean abroad ka marami ka nang pera.

  2. Thanks Sheryl for sharing. May kilala akong OFW - he worked in Saudi for 3 years, pagbalik akala namin ganoon pa rin - wala kasing mga pasalubong at hindi makinang (alang hepa), pero daw ka, six months later nagtayo ng grocery, at bumili ng 3 trak for hauling ng mga softdrinks etc...ngayon mayaman ng negosyante!

  3. I know effective iyong advise mo kasi I did that and it feels so good when you don't need to borrow money and live on the budget, then may savings ka pa. You just need to be faithfull and don't forget to give to the church, do-doble pa ang pera mo, liglig at aapaw pa.

  4. I appreciate so much your practical point of view. I lived in a vast land of Canada called the green pasture land or a promised land. But I was wondering why should I need to leave my country just to search for my fortune? As my income grows higher, the expenses follows due to shelter, transportation, food and clothing. Consequently, a stressful life! I decided to go back home for good and put up my small business. Now, I will never regret of my decision because in here there is freedom and welcome, no discrimination and no stressful life. Thus, I can say that Philippines is a pasture land and a promised land if we are only smart to see and seek opportunities around us.

Pls i need your advice.
    Thanks po.

  7. Taurus Girl, (1). ask a loan from someone so you renew the permit, or (2) gamitin mo muna yong lumang permit and renew it kong magkapera/kumita ka na, (3) or you can look for a partner that will pay for the permit, and sa iyo ang gamit etc. bigyan mo na lang sya ng share, kong ayaw nya ng share pay him/her of the permit cost with interest. :)

  9. Dorz, if you have a bank account in the Phils, send 20K out of your 80K every pay day. Make it a ritual, a habit. Just spend the rest 60K kong nassan bansa man kayo ngayon.

And if you do this for five years - milyones ang savings nyo.

Kaya nyo yan. Disiplina and self control lang ang kailangan.

  15. Candy, may mali sa business plan mo na puro capital outlay. Revise the plan - dapat may aakyat na pera sa bibitawan mong capital. For now deposit na money and think over it well.

  16. Hi Pinoy Manggagawa sa KSA!

I am happy that i was able to read your article. Salamat sobrang nakaka-inspire at talagang nakakamotivate, however i need some advice, aside from what you've mentioned and as far as i know di naman kami maluho ni MR. Galing kami sa mahirap na pamilya-both sides- and ala kami inhritance at other resources from families and other relatives. Pareho kaming nagtatrabahong mag-asawa at ang netpay namin every month ay 25,000.00php at nangungupahan pa kami...Hirap na hirap talaga ako magbudget, dati ala ako loan sa office ngayon palibot ako ng mga loan sharks and dati nakakapagtabi pa ako kahit 500p gada sahod ngayon ubos lahat. Marami ako nasubukan na other income, i-count mo na paggawa sweets and kakanin, pero di naman ako palagi nakakapagtinda dahil dami din kais work load, di ko alam kung paano kami makakabangon, iniisip ko kung kulang sa motivation and determination and smart budgeting or what but i hope someone can advise me or share to me a different ideas on how to lighten up my burdens.

  17. Hello Mimie,

Ang mahalaga ay mayroon ka ngayon motivation. Ang suggestion ko ay ito:

    1. Ang college ay talagang magastos. You could save a lot if you can send your children to government schools or Universities. Kong makapasa sila sa UP, or PLM or PUP or PMA or other government school where you are living now..ay matutulungan ka ng malaki sa tuition at books. Search for more information about this, and strategize.

    2. Include your children in the saving and planning process.Make it a shared responsibility. Matutulungan ka nila ng malaki.

    3. Avoid loans with huge interest as much as possible.

    4. Pinoys in other countries take double jobs. Think on how you can earn a sideline business on weekends, when you are not working.

At ngayon October uuwi na sya for good.

I really had a good time reading some of the comments dito. Ang problem ko naman po. Meron kami na Loan sa Bank. Kasi Dapat nagpatayo na resto Bar. We are renting the Place and then nakapos na ng pera kaya we have to let the place go. Pina buy out namin for the half a price and we are still paying the bank. We don't have any source of income already at wala na rin kami tao mahihiraman. Kaya ako nakapunta sa site nato dahil i have to look for alternative income na kahit gawin lang namin sa bahay. Kasi wala siyang trabaho then house wife then ako.

  22. Hello Angelo,

Kung sa tingin mo okey naman why don't you expand it by putting up another branch and let other work for you. I'm sure you can easily get additional capital from bank loans by using your small business as guarantee or source of income.

Hello, I enjoyed reading comments, right now I am a government employee, marami then loans, ang racket ko ay isa akong sales agent ng st. peter life plan, ayos naman ang commissions ko especially ngayon na madami na ang nag consider na ipunan ang mga kabaong nila, hehehe. But with little salestalk i'm sure kaya niyo rin gawin. Visit kayo sa pinakamalapit na st. peter life plan ofis and mag apply as family counselor, talagang i we welcome kayo ng mga tao dun, kasi sales ang hanap nila, tsaka wag mong esmolen kasi first 12 months may commission ka as long as nagbabayad ang client. 30% commission for 12 months, try niyo, hope this will help, the best part, laway lang at kaunting text to follow up clients.. pag-register niya, commission ka na agad.

You should know how to invest and save to bank.

    advantage as financial partner:

2.)Pwede mamonitor thru relative, friends or representative
    3.)Earn experience while making money
4.)Malaking help yan sa mga agri-business owners then of course sa economy natin, kc maraming small business ang hindi approved sa bank to obtain loan
5.)No need sa extra manpower, pwesto, maitenance etc...

maraming demands ngayon sa agri business na in a matter of month start ka ng income...

but siempre dapat deserving ang mapipili mong pa-partneran
