How to make Embutido

If you have been to a fiesta, you would know that Embutido is one of the favorite “bring home” or give away to your visitors. Give away or “bring home” to visitors is popular practice during fiestas, birthdays, and other celebrations in the provinces. Embutido is easy to make, you can actually add spices according to your taste, which means you can modify the basic procedure below – and make your very own brand of Embutido.

You need:

Steamer
Mixing bowl
2 lb. ground pork
1 cup finely chopped carrots
2 cup (6 slices) fi nely chopped (sweet or cooked) ham
6 tbsp. minced green bell pepper
6 tbsp. minced red bell pepper
1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
1/2 cup raisins
5 whole eggs
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
A dash of liquid seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp. cornstarch
Slices (wedges) of hardboiled egg
Slices (wedges) of sausage
Aluminum foil, 10-inches-by- 12-inches sizes

How to make the embutido:

1. Combine all the food ingredients and mix until blended – in a bowl.

2. Divide the mixture into portions, depending on how many you want to make. Spread and flatten the mixture onto the center of each aluminum foil. Put slices of hardboiled eggs and sausages so that each portion gets a share.

3. Carefully roll the aluminum foil into a tightly packed log about 1 inch to 2 inches in diameter, seal both ends.

4. Place the wrapped embutido in a steamer and steam for an hour.

5. Cool and slice it into rings to serve.

There you go. If you want to watch a video how to do this, then check out the youtube video below.
